Requirements and procedures for viewing
JuMPs and other video presentations:
JuMP files and other video files use either Microsoft
Windows Media Player or Macromedia's Shockwave Player click the
links below to download: Windows
Media Player
Shockwave
Player
- The workstation on which the presentation(s) is to be viewed must be running Windows 9(x), Windows NT, Windows
2000 or XP.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or higher must be installed.
- The workstation must be multimedia enabled, with soundcard, speakers, etc.
- For optimum viewing & sound playback, it is recommended that you
have Windows Media Player 6.4 (or higher) installed.
- For the highest quality playback
you must also install the TSCC.exe video codec. This should
happen automatically. If this does not work
the TSCC.Exe file can be downloaded
independently from:
http://www.jacana.com/jumpzone/TSCC.exe (170Kb)
After it has been downloaded, double-click on the TSCC.Exe file - it will install the required
codec.
- For optimum viewing set your
screen resolution to 1024 x 768, alternatively use a screen
resolution of 800 x 600 and press Alt+Enter as soon as the presentation
starts playing to switch to full screen. Pressing Alt+Enter
again will return the window to normal size.
- If you are viewing JuMPs or other
video presentations using a
connection of less than 56K we recommend that you download the
file to your PC.

When
I try and play the file I get an error message. |
When Windows Media Player tries to play the file, it tries to
connect to the Microsoft web-site and tries to download some codecs and fails, after which an error dialog message appears:
"Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)"
If this happens the TSCC video codec may be corrupt; you may need to re-install it (refer
to item 5 of the requirements
section above). If you're using Windows NT/2000, the logged on user (to the LAN) needs to be a member of the Administrator's group on the local machine
domain to make these changes.

What can I do if the image seems choppy and incomplete? |
If you are accessing the streaming video (*.asf) files, you will need to check how you are connected to the
Internet. If you are using a modem and connected at a speed of 33k or less, the file segments will stop and start
(buffering) until downloaded. You'll have to be patient and wait a few minutes for each segment to load. If connected at a speed of 56k or greater, the files should play
without any problems.
Using a player other than the recommended compatible player for the files, may result in the loss of viewing quality and
fragment the image. If the screen size does not fit the exact movie
size, the presentations may not portray the true screen image. Microsoft Media Player version 6.4 will automatically format the screen size to fit the movie.
Windows Media Player 7, in it's default "skins" mode has problems playing files at 100% their original
size, and ALWAYS shrinks the video to fit inside its playback window. This shrinking causes text to be illegible and the video
quality is poor though the actual file is fine. Most of the time it scales them to a smaller size resulting in image quality degradation. In most instances, selecting View->Zoom = 100% has no effect.
To fix this problem use Media Player 7 in 6.4 mode, or to reinstall Media Player 6.4.
To use Media Player 7 in v6.4 mode:
a) Locate and run the file MPLAYER2.EXE that is located in Program Files\Windows Media Player. This will run MP7 in v6.4 mode.
b) When v6.4 is running select View->Options->Formats and check the Available Formats so that Media Player will play Video Files and all of the Windows Media files. This will set the Windows Shell Associations to use Media Player 6.4 when you double click on a video in Windows Explorer.

The
sound and screen don't refresh at the same rate, why? |
Sometimes, when you switch to full screen mode (using the Alt+Enter keys) or when
you click on the fast forward button in Windows Media Player, the
sound will play, but the screen seems to take some time to refresh to the designated
position.
If the screen sometimes goes black when you switch to full screen or
the video sometimes takes a while to start when you fast forward,
this is because it is forcing the video to rebuffer, if you wait for
a short time this should correct itself as the file downloads.

I'm
using Windows 95 or Windows NT 4 and the .exe file won't work |
In some circumstances using Windows
95 or Windows NT the .exe file won't run automatically when you
click on it to run the file. In this situation you will need to open
the .exe file using WinZip - if you have WinZip installed right
click the .exe file and then select Open with WinZip. Once the file
is open in WinZip select and run the .asf file. WinZip can be
purchased or a trial version downloaded from www.winzip.com.
